Space Qualified

TRM’s high-reliability, space-qualified components are engineered to meet the most severe environmental requirements specified by top-tier defense contractors. Since our first space-qualified component was delivered in 1999, we have steadily contributed to the success of many major space programs. Our designs are optimized for specific application needs utilizing low-risk proven technology and our processes accommodate a high-mix/low volume manufacturing environment. Custom orders to meet exact electrical and mechanical specifications are available in all power dividers, directional couplers, and hybrids.

S-Band Coaxial High Power 90° Hybrid

This is an example of a high performance, high power, 90° hybrid designed for space flight environments. The materials are selected for low out gassing, high reliability and redundancy techniques. There are two pressure relief holes to aid rapid decompression performance. The housing is nickel plated per AMS-2404D and the circuits are all gold plated. The specially designed connectors are only mated once during electrical testing assuring minimum wear to the SMA interface.

Guaranteed electrical performance is as follows:

  • Frequency Range: 2.2 to 2.5 Ghz
  • Insertion Loss: 0.2dB max.
  • Isolation: 20dB min.
  • VSWR: 1.12:1 max.
  • Amplitude Balance: 0.25dB max.
  • CW Input Power: 150 watts max.

2x32 LO Distribution Module

This unit employs a network of directional couplers off of the mainline whose coupling values are compensated to provide equal power distribution to all of the 32 outputs. Based on the sensitive functionality of the device within the spacecraft, this unit incorporates redundancy in wiring techniques, parallel resistors,  and duplicate measurements at every solder connection in order to facilitate single point failure risk mitigation. Additionally, the construction technique uses three Teflon printed circuit boards reside within a channel cut into nickel plated aluminum housing and held under constant compression in order to hold solder joints and pin feed-thrus in place. SMP connectors are milled directly into the housing and contour machining is used to help achieve a total weight of 0.5 pounds.

Typical performance is as follows:

  • Frequency Range: 2,400 to 3,000MHz
  • Insertion Loss: 0.5 dB max
  • Amplitude Balance 0.8 dB p-p max
  • Input & Output Return Loss: 20dB min.
  • Input & Output Isolation: 20dB min.
  • Total Weight: 0.5 pounds
  • Temperature Range: 0 to +75° C
  • Environmental Specification: Space Environment

Low Profile Stacked Divider/Combiners

By applying our patented Airstrip™ and Interlock H™ channel technologies this device obtains an ultra low profile that is ideal for interconnection of blindmate connectors. The low profile is complimented by superior electrical performance with high isolation between divider stacks and stable grounding at Ku band frequencies and above. The Airstrip™ and Interlock H™ technology provides the mechanical ability to stack multiple divider/combiner units together without any tolerance limitation. This approach will outperform conventional bonded stripline designs while at the same time withstanding extreme environmental conditions and providing an overall weight reduction. The technology will hold a tolerance of less than 0.001” blind mate center-to-center dimension between the total stack and within the unit itself. This is achieved by the unique way in which the shroud of the blindmate connector is mounted into the plate and the output centerpin is connected directly to internal plug-in modules.

The unit shown has 24 blindmate inputs and 288 blindmate outputs and is stacked 24 levels high. The measurement of this assembly is 6.4 x 1.7 x 1.8 inches and the total package weighs less than 420 grams.

The Airstrip™ and Interlock H™ technology can be applied with any number of inputs, outputs and stack volumes and is ideal for use in low weight, high density phased array antenna systems deployed in space and airborne applications.
